The Different Types of Stihl Chainsaw Chain

There are four different types of Stihl chain types available:

1. Micro
2. Super
3. Hexa
4. Duro

Micro

Micro chainsaw chains are comfortable and reliable. This chain type is good for occasional users and agricultural use. They have a half-chiselled tooth chain which gives a high-quality cut with vibration at a minimum and can be sharpened easily.

• 1.1mm - GTA 26
• 1.3mm - MS180, MS181, MS211, MS231
• Designed for light and compact chainsaws
• Low kickback

• 1/4" variant in a very flat and narrow design, small chain pitch - ideal for pole pruners and saws with low output, drive link thickness 1.1mm and 1.3mm

Rapid Micro (RM) Chainsaw Chain

• With a 1.6mm drive thickness, this chain fits Ms251, MS291 in .325" version, whereas MS391 uses 3/8"

Super

Super chainsaw chains have the highest cutting performance of all Stihl chainsaws chains. This is from the low cutting resistance and full-chisel tooth which makes these chains ideal for professional forestry and harvesting wood.

Hexa Chainsaw Chain

These chains feature a new patented tooth design which means it has 10% better cutting performance compared to RS chain. They are easy to sharpen and stay sharper for longer.

Duro

Duro chainsaw chains are low-wear and extremely robust. They stay sharp for up to 10x longer than traditional chains due to their carbide plating. The Duro chain is great for cutting dirty wood.
