What Size Wrench You Need to Remove a Lawn Mower Blade

In general, a lawnmower blade can be removed with a 15/16" wrench. However this can vary on what lawnmower model you have.

In your lawnmower user manual, you will be able to find information on what size of wrench you need.

Do you need a special wrench to remove the blade on your lawnmower?

Not in most cases. There will be some lawn mower models that will require a special wrench to remove the blade yet majority will just need a standard wrench.

Can you use an adjustable wrench to remove a lawnmower blade?

Yes, but it's not recommended. Most lawnmower blade nuts are extremely tight so it's likely to break an adjustable wrench.

Can you use a socket wrench to remove a lawnmower blade?

Yes you can.

Can you overtighten the nut?

Yes. If you overtighten the nut, there's a chance of sheering the nut and bolt which will make it difficult to remove in the future. The nut only needs to be tightened until you can no longer turn it in large amounts.

Can you replace the nut?

In most cases, yes.

Do you need a torque wrench to replace a Lawnmower Blade?

No. The blade needs to be secure on the lawnmower so it doesn't need exact tightness. It's fine as long as the blade is secure.

Which way do you put a new Lawnmower Blade on?

Most lawnmower blades have arrows or words that indicate which direction the blade needs to be placed. Do not mount your new blade upside down!
