I am looking to replace a 24 inch set of blades on a Stihl HS80 hedgecutter with a 30 8nch (750mm) blade set. I already have the two blades, but realise I'll need new guides etc plus fixings. But I also see two Guide Guards on the diagram... fitted to the end of the blades. My current setup with 24 inch blades doesn't have these fitted at all. Are they optional or are they an essential with a 30 inch blade set?

The guide guards are showing as an option on the Stihl site so I don't think they are essential.
