- The name Makita comes from its founder, Mosaburo Makita.
- Founded in 1915, the company was initially called Makita Electric Works.
- Initially, the company focused on repairing lighting equipment, motors, and transformers.
- Makita was the first company in Japan to sell electric planers.
- Their first major project involved exporting motors and electric generators to the Soviet Union.
- In 1959, Makita began manufacturing its own power tools.
- They created the first drill with a nickel calcium battery, making it rechargeable. This drill, the 6010D, was released in 1978.
- Makita also introduced the first air tools, including the AN5000 pneumatic nailer and AC6001 air compressor.
- In 1991, they acquired Dolmar, enhancing their position in the outdoor power tool market.
