When Autumn comes to mind, we always associate it with shorter days and trees shedding their leaves ready for Winter. How to maintain your garden during the transition from Summer to Autumn will change from mowing the lawn to blowing and raking leaves. So, it’s important to make sure that equipment during this period is in tip top condition so they can be used in years to come.

Most of the time, problems with machines are caused from poor maintenance, incorrect storage and not knowing how to troubleshoot in general. So to help, we have created a guide to help eliminate these problems so you get the most out of your machines.

Husqvarna Petrol Leaf Blowers

Starting Problems

Flooded Engine:

The engine on your petrol leaf blower could be flooded and therefore the user needs to look into the “starting a warm engine” section in the provided manual. This is the same as starting in a cold position just without the choke on.

Fuel:

Another reason for starting problems could be fuel. Check if there is fuel and fill the tank with the correct ratios of fuel and 2 stroke mix. It could also be that the fuel is not reaching the carburettor for various reasons such as a dirty fuel filter or issues with the fuel line such as being twisted or being split. In this situation you will need to replace the fuel filter or the line.

Spark Plug:

Additionally, the spark plug might not be firing and therefore needs a new spark plug.

Low Compression:

If you have identified the engine has low compression, this could mean there is damage or a crack in the cylinder which can cause starting problems. This can be checked doing a compression test.

Engine will not idle properly

Fuel:

If fuel is not reaching the carburettor, check if there are issues with the fuel filter or fuel line such as being twisted or split as this may cause the engine to not idle properly.

Carburettor Fine Adjustment:

Carburettor Requires fine adjustment using the T-screw (BB) which regulates the throttle setting at idle speed. If the T- screw is turned clockwise this gives a higher idle speed; turning it counterclockwise gives a lower idle speed.

Crankshaft Seals:

These seals may be worn which could also be the cause.

Low Compression:

Additionally, the engine may also not idle properly if the machine has low compression.

Engine will not accelerate

Air filter:

Check if the air filter is dirty or damaged. If this is the case, clean it or if necessary replace it with a new air filter.

Fuel:

Check if there are issues with the fuel filter or fuel line such as being twisted or split as it could be that fuel is not reaching the carburettor which can be a reason why the engine will not accelerate.

Spark Plug:

Another reason may be that the spark plug might be fouled and if this is the case, the spark plug might need to be replaced.

Carburettor:

Carburettor requires adjustment. (See carburettor fine adjustment)

Engine smokes

Choke:

If the engine is smoking, it may be that the choke is partially on and therefore needs to be adjusted.

Fuel mixture:

If the fuel mixture is incorrect, it will need to be emptied and refilled.

Air filter:

Check if the air filter is dirty or damaged.

Carburettor:

The carburettor needs to be checked and adjusted if necessary.

Engine Runs Hot

Fuel Mixture:

The fuel mixture is incorrect, therefore when refueling check the ratios of gasoline and 2 stroke oil.

Spark Plug:

The engine may run hot if the incorrect spark plug has been fitted.

Carburettor:

Carburettor requires adjustment. (See carburettor fine adjustment)

Carbon:

Carbon build up restricts air flow in the machine which can also cause the engine to run hot.
