Common Reasons Why Your Honda Engine Won't Start

Having trouble starting your Honda engine? Here we will explain simple steps that may help resolve the issue.

To begin, lets start with the basics:

  • Is there fuel in the fuel tank? It's also worth checking the amount of oil is correct and the age of the oil too as it can go stale if over 3 months old.
  • Is the fuel tank turned to the 'ON' or 'OPEN' position?
  • Is the engine stop switch to the 'ON' position? If you are struggling to turn the switch, it will need to be replaced.
  • Is the engine battery charged and equipped with a battery?
  • Is the choke lever at the 'ON position'?
  • Is there a blockage in the carburettor? This can be caused from leaving fuel in the engine for a long time so try cleaning with a carb cleaner. It's also worth checking if the carburettor float chamber has got stale fuel in as this can cause problems too.
  • Is there a blockage in the air filter or fuel filter? This can cause problems if fuel is left in the engine for a long time as some fuel ingredients can evaporate, causing a build up of sticky substances which clogs the filters.
  • Is the spark plug fouled? Inspect the plug for signs of wear or damage. Use a spark plug tester to see whether the spark plug is defective.

If after all of this the engine still does not start, it's recommended to take it to a Honda Engine Dealer.

Common Reasons Why Your Honda Engine Isn't Performing Well

Is your Honda engine performing poor? Does the engine seem to be lacking power? Following these simple steps may help find the reason why this might be happening:

  • Is the spark plug fouled? Check for signs or wear or damage.
  • Is there a blockage in the air filter? This is decreasing the amount of air being supplied to the engine so its power and performance becomes lower.
  • is there a blockage in the carburettor? This can be the culprit if the engine stops running after a few seconds.

If the engine still does not start, it's recommended to take it to a Honda Engine Dealer.
