We've been through our archives again this week and found a few vintage Thwaites Dumper manuals! Thwaites is a company that is synonymous for their production of high quality dumpers, originally founded in 1937 by Basil Thwaites as an Agricultural Engineering Company. The first Thwaites dumper was manufactured in 1951. A three wheeled machine, powered by a 6hp single cylinder Petter engine with a 10 CU Ft capacity. This machine was soon followed by a four wheeled dumper that was given the iconic name of "The Standard."

In 1954 the company became Thwaites Engineering Ltd when it dropped other areas of the business to focus on the growing popularity of dumpers. Thwaites dumpers were made to last, the fact that some are still being used today is proof that they stood the test of time! The dumpers were known for quality inside and out as Thwaites used the powerful and reliable Petter engines for their dumpers until the 1970/80's where they switched to Perkins, another well known brand.
