In this video, we show you how to repairing Damaged Bolt Threads on a Honda GX160 Exhaust Muffler using a Helicoil Kit.
Today we're going to show you an easy way to re-thread the holes in the cylinder head, connecting the exhaust on a Honda GX160 Engine using a M8 X 1.25mm Helicoil Kit. As a machine vibrates and if bolts and screws are fastened too tightly or loosely, this can damage threads, which are vital to hold parts in place. Firstly, to determine the size of the helicoil needed to re-thread, you will need to use the bolt to work out the diameter. As a top tip, a simple and cost effective way to know how far to drill out a damaged thread is to measure the depth of the hole and mark this on the drill. Then drill out the damaged thread with a power drill and the drill bit provided using the 8.3 HSS. You may also want to clear all the excess shavings using maintenance spray. Using the tapping tool and a ratchet to cut the new threads, you will need to make sure you are placing the tool in straight, you can also use a recommended cutting oil to lubricate the tool. Clear the hole again using maintenance spray. When you have created new threads get the new insert on the installation tool and position the adjustable ring so that the tang is centred on the tang slot. Wind the new insert in with a downwards pressure until below the surface. To remove the tang at the end of the spring, gently tap this with the break tool provided. That's how you re-thread the holes in the cylinder head, connecting the exhaust on a Honda GX160 Engine using a M8 X 1.25mm Helicoil Kit.
