Please could you advise the difference between part numbers, 008 6817 and the 008 6117. Many thanks.

These part numbers do fit different machines. On the product specification on the website listing you will see a list of compatible machines for each part.

I got parts I am going two order for STIHL Saw 023 model MS 230 would you know, if parts are right before I order please?

The 3003 008 6117 isn't compatible for your model. However I have put the 2 options below for you. As there is a 3/8 Pitch or a .325 pitch. The 3005 is for the bar, then the part numbers to the right is the chains.

Does this bar hold the 1.6mm (.063") 3/8" chain? I have a 2003 MS290, Hope this helps with finding the right bar.
